Painters Savoyards / Francis Cariffa

Francis Cariffa ( 1890-1975) - Born in Chambery in 1890, he dedicated himself in his youth theatre. Passion he shares with his older brother Antoine. It went to Paris, where he played next to Louis Jouvet in particular. Francis should join him but in 1914 the First World War broke out. His brother was killed, meanwhile, as a test pilot, Francis was seriously injured. It remains in the aftermath of the war with his mother, in the Savoie region, very sick. Aged 28 years when, in the art he immerses himself. The painting is now his universe. He exhibited in 1924, Simonson at the gallery in Paris, where the state buys a painting. This reinforces the recognition in this direction. Since 1927, he exhibited throughout France, Paris, Nice, Lyon, Grenoble… In its ownership of Challes-les-Eaux, he painted next to his wife Sonca, the same painter. His daughter Tonia, becomes also a painter and emeritus student of Fernand Léger. Francis Cariffa a favourite subject for the mountain, but near Chambery appear on his canvases like the Lac du Bourget and other places typical of the Savoie. It is also recognized, as an Orientalist painter because of his many paintings made in Morocco in Marrakech. He makes decorations for the liner "Normandie". His painting is mainly made with a knife. He likes the color and lively touches. Painter energetic, these performances are alive and offers a new vision of its traditional landscapes…
